Speech and language therapy addresses language and communication problems, it can help autistic kids to improve their verbal, non verbal and social communication. There are different kind of strategies used for improving speech and communication issues in children with autism. Oral motor exercises also help to improve sensory awareness of oral cavity and tongue, this helps autistic kids to improve articulation and imitation of speech sounds along with language stimulation and behavior intervention helps an Autistic child to improve the communication skill. Children with Autism have difficulty in using language spontaneously, they may speak when they are told to or in response to specific instruction which is considered as language stimulation prompt and prompt can be
faded slowly- slowly. Along with sensory integration therapy, oral placement therapy and behavior intervention can improve speech, language and communication skills in kids with Autism.

Sensory integration therapy , occupational therapy, oral placement therapy, behavior Intervention along with speech therapy helps kids with autism, ADHD, down syndrome, Mental Retardation and intellectual disability kids to develop to their maximum potential.Early intervention helps kids to develop their brain maximally as neuronal plasticity is maximum at this age.

Autism is a neurodevelopment disorder leading to social communication language and behavior disorder. Kids with autism have sensory integration dysfunction. Because of this sensory integration dysfunction these kids have a lot of dyspraxia issues that is motor planning deficits .These kids have oral dyspraxia and oral sensory issues leading to speech and language deficits.

Types of Speech Disorders

There are several types of speech disorders. Mixed receptive -expressive language disorder is when the child has development delays and problems understanding the spoken language as well as in speaking. With expressive language disorder, a child face problems associated with the presence of inadequate vocabulary in his/her speech. In case of speech sound disorder, a child is unable to articulate precise sounds and phonics in his/her speech. Childhood -onset fluency disorder, which is also known as ‘stuttering’, starts in childhood and can last through life. A child with social communication disorder has trouble with verbal and nonverbal communication that is not caused by thinking problems. It results in restricted socialization skills.

Communication disorder are manifested in common symptoms in a young child and can take the form of not speaking at all, limited word choice for his/her age, trouble grasping simple direction or naming objects, poor attention span and eye contact, hyperactivity, inadequate display of emotions, unclear speech, stammering and lack of initiation of conversation.


Parents Complains

Autistic child generally comes with different presentation where parents
complains;

• Child moves meaningless and suddenly say word with his own wish
• Child does not imitate words
• Child is not using non verbal communication methods like pointing etc.
• Child speaks colours, shapes, numbers with his own wish but does not
communicate his need verbally
